There would be an uproar if the throws at the line out were as crooked as the scrum feeds!

There isn't, they are.

When the laws were last changed, to supposedly enforce a mandatory strike, and allow the 9 to stand towards his side of the scrum and put the ball in straight, I think the first two scrums in Premiership the ball was put in straightish, since then back to slinging it straight to the No8.

One not-straight was picked up early on in the World Cup, then ignored for the rest of the tournament. I do feel not straight the lineout should be penalised more, and only given increased leeway when conditions are blustery.

Nah, if the lineout throws were as crooked as the put ins they'd go straight to the scrum-half! :evillaugh:

As a referee, I will pull crooked feeds, however; there are plenty of other things that could be pulled at every scrum.

*Scrum not formed within 30 seconds
*Pre-engagement
*Pushing prior to the ball entering the scrum
*incorrect bind by props
*Props not driving straight
*6, 7 & 8 not being bound correctly
*Foot up early
*Ball not making contact with the ground prior to contact by hooker

All of which quite often happen before the ball even enters the scrum.

I guarantee if I refereed every scrum to the letter of the laws, we would never complete a scrum.

And after a couple of weeks in which that happened, most, if not all, of those offences would miraculously stop - as long as the refs continued to enforce the rules. Or is the alternative to go for Rugby League scrums? If the rules are being systematically ignored, then you may as well.
