Sefton 8 Heaton Moor 17. At least we manage to win this rather poor game which I managed to see before a dash along the M62 to see a marginally better game at Sale.

2nds and 3rds both off for frost as are the U17s tomorrow.

Heaton Moor 50 Liverpool Veterinarians 3

1sts no game due to Thornton Cleveleys' demise. 3rds no game.

Today

Heaton Moor U17s 12 Wirral U17s 12 On the attack whole of 2nd half but Wirral's excellent defence limited us to 7 points in the half.

Kendal Vikings 55 Wigan 2nd 0
Game finished early (60 mins ?)

Kendal 14 Alnwick 18
Close (again)
https://www.kendalrugby.co.uk/news/clos ... 20171.html

A fair performance against the team in 2nd and except for a brainfart by us, we'd have taken 4pts.
The Vikings had a big win against Wigan 2nds and the game was called after 60 mins.

In Kendal's league, Penrith were on the wrong end of a 115 -5 defeat against the table toppers Heath

Heaton Moor 3rds 7 Marple 50

Watched the last two before hotfooting it to Salford.

Today

Heaton Moor U17s 31 Chester U17s 27. Great win against previously unbeaten Chester. Try in the last minute to win it.

So 4 live games watched over the weekend and one on TV (Fri eve) Overall score 2-2

Bristol 30 Sale 29. Final kick by Keira Bevan clinched it at the death.
Sale leading 10-22 at half time with a try bonus. The next 20 was all Bears but Sale came back to lead by 27-29 until the final minute. Two yellows and wet handling cost Sale. That said backline handling and physicality in the first half was impressive. Onward to a home game against Gloucester Hartbury next Saturday

The two yellows were just brain-dead stupidity.

Holly didn't make most of her conversions. Kicked straight out from a penalty near the end, which was a complete howler in the circumstances.

Scrum under pressure most of the time.

Did Asia H-R come on?

So frustrating to lose that game.

Next week's game against unbeaten Gloucester-Hartbury is going to really tough based on that performance. Sale will have to step up a gear and cut out the silly mistakes to have any chance against such a quality team.

Sale 7 Gloucester Hartpury 22.
A try bonus defeat but that was some effort by Sale. Difficult conditions but Sale never took a backward step and gave G-H a tough time. In the end the depth of class internationals that G-H had told. A tremendous atmosphere and a terrific game of rugby

I thought we were a bit crap in the first half, but obviously got a bit of a talking to at HT. Came out with a lot more intent in the second. Good performance considering the opposition. Hopefully this is a turning point for them.

O/T - Super Rugby Pacific 2026

After considerable confusion it appears that it will be on Sky Sport. Hopefully the opening fixture of Highlanders/Crusaders will be televised on Friday morning 13th Feb at 6 am.

Hopefully :-)

Scrappy game, p/poor handling and line outs from the 'Saders. The new laws didn't feature significantly. 'Saders coach Penny was not impressed.

What a difference from last week. Rigoni was in everything and everywhere. Young Lizzie Duffy at 10 looks full of potential. Hogan-Rochester was a real handful in both attack and defence but the standout and Player of the Match, was Hogan at 8 who had a huge impact.

Discipline remains an issue too many pens and cards to be comfortable.

Penrith 16 Kendal 20

Another tight finish

https://www.kendalrugby.co.uk/

K were 13-0 down and beeing beeaten in every aspect of the game for the first 39 minutes !!

Penrith are on a horrendous run of 11 consecutive defeats and have now dropped into the relegation play off zone(not sure how the playoff milarkey works yet)

Western Force 24 vs ACT Brumbies 56

Force were very poor on the pitch and in the stands, it seemed a very low attendance. Pick of the game was try by Franco Molina. On this showing it looks like another season of uphill struggle.

And a huge howler from the officials that, for once, worked in Sale's favour. I watched the match on replay last night, and Sophie Benavent got away with one. The officials changed their minds over who was upright in the tackle and decided it was Tysh, but that there was mitigation because Sophie had pushed the Ealing player across. Watch the replay: it was Sophie who was upright, and Tysh comes in later, low and legal. Tysh took one for the team there; Sophie was looking at a two-yellow-red card.

Also, re: Lizzy Duffy. I remember a couple of seasons ago when kicking was what let her down. All her kicks seemed to whiffle through the air like an arthritic duck. Now, though, she's nailing difficult conversions and easily clearing halfway from the 22. I don't know who took on improving her kicking technique, but well done, whoever you are.

They didn't let their heads drop and fought until end. A good perfermance overall. I preferred Duffy at 10.

Hogan and Kasolo at 8 give good cover for that position.

I was surprised at how good Asia HR is in defence. Even getting a turnover if I remeber correctly.

I feel that Holly is going through a slight downturn in form. Hopefully a little time away from 10 might help.

Agreed, a bullet was dodged there for sure

Duffy at 10 and Aitchison at 15 seemed to work well and should help Duffy's development.
A random thought I had but….

England flitted between Holly, Zoe and Helena last year but have now lost Abby Dow.

Is there a chance that they’re thinking of playing Kildunne on the wing and then move Holly to 15?

Not sure I agree with it but it’s the kind of innovation that England can afford to try
