I made an all to rare visit to Heywood Rd today to watch Sale academy U18, really outclassing their opponents, especially in the first half. Great line speed and handling skills compared to Saints, who only made the scoreline look better by two close range tries late on. Some of the Sale tries were super to watch, with pace both on the wings and through the middle, helped by some poor tackling. Think the final score was 45. v 20.
Our no. 10 was the stand out player for me - Charlie Wardle (?). Superb step and footwork and great acceleration too. With that first name and wearing the 10 shirt for Sale, he can't fail can he!? Look forward to seeing him and many of the others coming though to the main squad in the years ahead.

Went to today’s u18 game. Very disappointing performance overall. As for Wardle, he didn’t do much in attack, due to various factors but his defence was outstanding for a young small lad. That’s one of the question marks when you look at a promising player but he made 3 key probable try saving tackles. One of which he got up and jackeled. He was yellow carded for that which looked like an appalling decision as the pen should have gone the other way. Sale 6 also impressed. Yande Nkonge.

Just to clarify, yesterday's game was against Newcastle. I know coz I was there - to quote Mr Maximilian Boyce. And I was a tad disappointed as well, I'd been told about the Northampton game and how good it was and expected the same but we didn't seem to gel for much of the game. Our first try was an intercept breakaway try (and no less valid for that) and we never seemed to get going properly after that start.
Congratulations Morwenna
