Would definitely make sense given we’ve got the following in his positions:
Lock- Beaumont, Phillips, Evans, Postlethwaite and Lood
6: Ross, x2 du Preez, Nield and x2 Curry

Really has stalled due to injury these past few years. Good luck to him if true.

Permanent deal, rather than loan, it looks like.

Wish him well there - blighted by injuries after he showed great promise in the u20s, hopefully it's not hampered his progress too much as he did look a very promising player.

We're very well stocked in both the 2nd and back row so it's hard to see where he would find game time here.

I hope that his career takes off and its a good move for him - except when he plays against us !

Probably the right call for Sale and George, but can't help being a little saddened that our influx of (high quality) South Africans has come at the expense of a genuine academy prospect. No doubt those South Africans helping us climb the league will soften the blow. Hope George can find some prolonged fitness early in the season and secure himself a regular starting spot.

Back in the 2016-17 season he was given chances as a very fresh talent but sadly he’s been injured for pretty much two years. If he hadn’t have been then it’s debatable whether or not we’d have brought in quite as many reinforcements.
Hope he does well (just not against Sale).

Difficult balancing act, I guess it comes down to whether we see him meriting the investment based on the genuine likelihood of him becoming a regular member of the 23. His injuries have made it difficult to prove he’s worth it, plus there’s been suggestions he was struggling to put on enough weight. We’ve shown we are willing to invest in young players and bring them through, but not everyone is going to make it. I suspect this is the best move for him and the club

A show of faith in Postlethwaite (sp?) too I guess.

I’d like to see Rouban Birch get some opportunities this season also.

Yes I meant to add that in as well, Postelthwaite seems to have moved ahead of him, so in a sense he’s being blocked by another home grown player as much as he is by imports. I don’t think anyone can really argue we needed the imports in the pack as we don’t have a batch of front 5 forwards that are ready for regular premiership action yet.

I think the weight thing might have been related to the injuries - certainly that was the impression I got from the BBQ the season before last. Think he might’ve had something undiagnosed for a while and that was all affecting him.

I’m quite sad he’s gone, albeit if he gets game time then it’ll be the right move for him. I remember his breakthrough season after the JRWC - in the middle of that awful season after the departures of Cips, Vadim and TT, his arrival along with the Curry twins in mid-season made a difference. Like them, GN never took a step back on the pitch and wasn’t cowed by reputation of who he faced. His spiky performances helped gee up the team in some crucial and tight victories. He was exceptionally personable off the field too.

It’s getting a bit dusty in here so I best stop - really hope it works out for him. Him and TJ on the flanks will be a cosy reunion!

Big assumption that he’s starting and also playing flank. I suspect he will be a squad man at the start. Would be fun to see TJ next season.
