I know it's a bit early but I was going to get a couple of tickets for The Stoop on 8th Jan. Those who may be going or have been before, where would you suggest trying to get tickets to be amongst the Sale faithful?

Without wanting to rain on your parade, The Stoop tends to be very full for most home games, so tickets aren’t always easy to get. I used to try to get tickets from Sale for away games and so we would all be together. I don’t know if Sale do this anymore.

If you do go, I found a pair of tickets was an expensive day out. But I do like The Stoop as a ground.

My advise. Go early, park & walk; then have a pint in the bars underneath the main stand.

The away fans traditionally sit in the North Stand at the Stoop. If you're not driving then Twickenham's reasonably well connected via Waterloo and Clapham Junction.

As Bucks1861 has said, in the past you could get tickets through Sale, though I don't know whether they still do this.

It's pretty much guaranteed a good day out at the Stoop, they run match days very well.

As mentioned above traditionally away fans at the stoop sit in the North Stand.
I bought two tickets direct from Quins on an early bird deal just £35 each rather than £40 for the North Stand.

Always a good day out at the Stoop and looking forward to the game.

Sale do not offer away tickets anymore, you have to go direct to the away club.
Quite often we get an allocation of seats/standing areas and Angela Traynor sends out a regular email with the details from the various clubs.

Now I've more time, I'm hoping to get to more away games as well as the home matches.

But they also have a much bigger, local fanbase which usually fills the stadium, and most of their fans don't/can't drive so a good number stay for quite a while after the match

Given how spread out (geographically) the Sale fanbase is, where would that be? Or is the "core fan base" just the ones who live in one area?

Quins’ core fan base stretches to Hampshire and Sussex (possibly Kent).

Twickenham is easy to get to by public transport from central London or Reading/Windsor but pretty rubbish otherwise. Even somewhere like Esher (6 miles away) is 80-90 minutes on public transport.

I travelled to the Stoop several times with a Quins-supporting friend from Southampton. It was pretty easy on Public transport (train) though it was a trip into London, then back out. An absolute breeze by car, though we used that option for Quins matches very rarely, we did work the gate together at Twickenham and made the drive many times.

To be fair the trip by car to The Stoop from just about anywhere on a Friday evening is a nightmare.

What we need to do is move to a 20,000 stadium in say Stockport (within walking distance of Davenport) with good road and rail links…….

Maybe Barrow would be better. There's nothing to do there, they would come to watch Sailor Sharks.

Yep, you definitely can't put it in everyone's backyard. But choosing a stadium that shares a mile stretch of motorway for exitting the Trafford Centre etc and with no quick public transport links is a pretty good way of pleasing nobody.

@DavenportSharky is on to something in that Stockport station is one of the most well connected north of London King's X. I hope they really did exhaust all options to stay at EP because in terms of location I think it would be very hard to beat.

Having lived in Cheadle Heath and Davenport for some years ( a long time ago ),
parking was at a premium around Edgeley then, can't see it being much better now.
Travelling from Rochdale to Trafford Park is easier than getting to Stockport by some margin.
Travelling to Sale is worse.
Unless there was a central Manchester option with lots of parking, travelling anywhere else
to a stadium is bound to be a problem for some.
The AJBell is a compromise to be sure, but owning the ground would make a big difference.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I live a few miles east of Stockport (Romiley) and never had any problem parking (for free!) that side of the A6 in the streets behind Stockport Town Hall. That left me with about a ten minute walk to EP.

Of course that was usually on Friday evenings which probably made a difference.

On paper a groundshare with county would be superb, but given the bad blood between us and them, it'll never happen again.

If the stadium had been built in Sale some people would have moaned.
But hey what do I know with a 500 mile trip for a home game

Sale tried for years to get planning permission to develop EP and the council weren’t interested...

I wouldn’t personally return there given the previous attitude of county fans.
