Kendal Vikings 18 Stockport 2nd Xv 24

A game that the Vikings could have/should have/might have won and would have done another day. As one of the Stockport players put it "How the **** did we win that one !

Kendal 33 Stockport 24
Excellant Start https://www.kendalrugby.co.uk/news/kend ... 01283.html

The last time I watched Kendal play Stockport, Stockport were absolutely flying and won propmotion with nearly a clean sweep of BP wins. This time around, Kendal were good value for their win. Even more so that they have lost a lot of experienced players since the end of the 2022/2023 season

Aspull 34 Heaton Moor 20. At least we scored 4 tries for a bonus point.

Sadly the 2nds couldn't raise a team. A malaise that also took out Warrington 2s, Keswick 2s and even Fylde 2s. And World Rugby claimed this week that the game was growing!

Fylde not raising a 2nd team isn't good. Don't they usually run 3 teams ?
I know that it's very early days, but Kendal Vikings had a squad of 23 yesterday, with quite a few unavailable through cricket, school holidays etc, which is a very positive start.

Going OT but there is an article in today's Telegraph about the dwindling numbers of adult male grassroots players. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union ... are-dying/

Their one hope is that England go deep into the World Cup.

Ah! :yikes:

Trouble is it's two years until the Women's World Cup.

Manchester 2nd 68 Kendal Vikings 28
Well beaten by a more experienced, more savvy, bigger, stronger team. Looking at the positive, the Vikings average age was about 20 (possibly younger) and they'll have picked up things from how Manchester played.

Manchester 38 Kendal 34 (website score isn't correct)

I didn't envy anyone playing today - teh temp gauge in my car hit 30 deg as I pulled into the car park today.

Glossop 2nd Xv and Fylde 3rd Xv have now pulled out of the division that my son plays in. Not good news at all.

Yet Fylde 4ths and Glossop 3rds are carrying on in their divisions. Is that a bit unfair on the other teams in their leagues?

This is from the Glossop website https://www.glossoprufc.com/2nd-team-update

It's possibly not enough players of a required level available to commit to 2nd team rugby for a full season - but enough players wanting to play semi-regualr rugby, possibly more social type rugby.
On the plus side, at least they withdrew before the season began.

Vale Of Lune 2nds 0 Kendal Vikings 62
A very good result against our nearest and dearest (KL aren't in the same division). Sadly Flumpty Jnr wasn't involved as he is currently in a plastic boot.

Kendal 17 Rossendale 34
Not as bad as it threathened to be - Byron Mcguigan scoring in the first 60 seconds & Rossendale well on top. Kendals centre facing off against Denny was one of last seasons Colts and didn't let himself down.

Battling performance against a really strong team

Macc second after six straight wins. Big home game against Rossendale in third next Saturday.
Rossendale had a huge win today - 106 -14 against Penrith and Rossendale were down to 14 from early on.

Macc 34 Blackburn 26

A very entertaining game which leaves both teams and Rossendale in a three way tie at the top. Lots of good rugby in this division this year, get out and watch!
£10 at Macc
ps kudos to Blackburn who run the ball at every opportunity and virtually refuse to hoof the ball away!

That's a cracking result for your boys - the top 3 in Regional 1 Northwest are absolutely flying.

Kendal 1st & 2nd Combined vs Lancaster Universtity 1st & 2nd Combined

A format that I hadn't watched before and it made for a cracking game.
K 38 L36

The lead changed several times over 80 minutes and either team would have made a worthy winner.

Nothing doing for the Kendal teams.

The Vikings were due to play table toppers Firwood Waterloo 2nds on the 3G at Kendal, but the game has just been called as they can't keep the snow off the pitch markings.

The 1st's game Away against Macclesfield was called this morning.

This weekend was due to be a Manc Triple Bill at Kendal, with Manc's 1st's, 2nd's and Ladies teams all visiting Mint Bridge.

Sadly, the weather has ballsed things up and the main pitch is currently waterlogged. The 2nds game that was due to be on the 3g has been postponed so that the the 1st's game can be moved to the 3g if the main pitch becomes unplayable.
Hats off to the ground staff who got the pitch in a position to pass a pre match pitch inspection (although it looked completely trashed after 80 mins of rugby.

Heaton Moor 27 Widnes 33. Same old story scoring plenty of tries but losing. Still 2 bonus points against top of the league is OK I suppose.

Glossop 3 60 Heaton Moor 2 7 . How Glossop were allowed to drop out of their 2nd team league but stay in the 3rd team league defeats me.
