A regular "grumble" from non-London based rugby supporters, is that why can't England play away from Twickenham on some occassions and take the national team outside of London.
The RFU seem to make a great deal of money hosting games at Twickenham and they say that the great deal of money that is raised from Twickenham games is reinvested into the game (I'm sure that the Blazer Boys get their fill as well !) and that if the games were hosted elsewhere, they wouldn't have the same amout of funds to reinvest.
This time around, the RFU have seen the light/relented/given it a shot and are playing a RWC warmup game against Italy at St James Park, Newcastle. Absolutely fantastic. Brilliant. A real chance for people away from London to see England play - but then the kicker. Lets play the game on a Friday night with a 7.45 KO.
Is it a superb initiative, or an opportunity lost, due to poor timing ? (there seems to be a lot of tickets still available)
p.s for Sundays game against Wales, Flumpty Jnr and I are leaving home about 6.15 to drive to Man Pic , to take the train to Richmond and we'll be back home about 22.15.
For the game against Italy, we're collecting the sprogs from school and heading straight to Newcastle. From South Cumbria its doable. Once you get into Lancashire and beyond it would become very difficult to get your sprogs along, which is a real shame.
