Among the law trials:

Removing scrum resets.
Taking away the option of a scrum for a penalty, a free-kick, or when an attacker is held-up in-goal.

Reinforcing high tackle guidelines to reduce face-to-face contact and the introduction of an "orange card" for potential red-card offences.

The player is removed with the offence checked by the Television Match Official. If deemed a red card offence, the player doesn't return. If not, they return after 15 minutes.

Removing the choke tackle, with referees calling a "tackle" rather than a "maul".

Awarding a free-kick rather than a scrum for when a team fails to "use it" at a scrum, ruck, or maul.

Speeding up rucks by cutting the "use it" time from 5 seconds to 3 seconds.

Restricting the number of players who can join a maul and the time spent in the maul.

If it isn’t safe to re-set a scrum how the hell is it safe to scrummage at all - muddled thinking.
The virus isn’t waiting for an extra player to join a ruck, it doesn’t have to abide by the 5 second (or 3 second) rule

If you're under any pressure at the scrum it will be very tempting to collapse the scrum and get a free kick instead - if you can get away with it! Even if you're not under pressure it takes the risk away.

Will it be any more entertaining than everyone trying to collapse every scrum to earn a penalty, whether under pressure or not?

I half thought that a free kick would be replaced with a free pass, so that the ball would have to be moved from the breakdown point might have worked better. With a free kick, you'll get SH's looking to milk offside penalties from defending teams not retreating 10 mts.
