Ted Hill first up for 2 more seasons until the end of 2024. Great to see the club exploiting the loophole that allows them to only put 75% of the salary in the wage cap in future seasons.

To have retained Ted is fantastic news.

It would have been really easy for him to have his head turned by other clubs. Personally, not bothered what he's being paid, if he remains injury free, he will be massive for the club, and arguably for country once Jones gets his head from up his own @rse

Looking forward to tomorrow's announcement - really hoping for Ollie Lawrence to commit to a long term deal. Recall he only signed for one year earlier this season. As for the other two announcements this week could be more of the youngsters or maybe a couple of senior players looking for some security in the new era eg. Duncan Weir, Nick Schonert, Cornell du Preez ?????

Great news re. Ted, and if Ollie is also on the list that will be equally welcome.

I also like the way the news is doled out day by day, it might seem obvious but I’ll bet there’s thought behind it.

I wonder if it’s carefully scheduled like album tracks, or items on the Antiques Roadshow? A good one first, then the less exciting stuff, then the best one last.

If so, I can’t wait to see what’s better than keeping Ted.

Are Teds like Eds I wonder?

(2 Eds are better than 1)

A few months ago I was getting rather concerned about the financial position of the Club.

That all seems a long time ago now especially as contract extensions such as Ted Hill's seem to imply an ability to make an offer attractive enough to keep somebody of his rising star status at the Club. If the week brings further news about, say, Ollie Lawrence then that must be an indication that my earlier concerns were misplaced.

I wonder how the market place for players, especially EQPs, has opened up after the Salary Cap revisions.

No mention of the length of extension, reading between the lines I would hazard a guess that Ollie's extended his current one year contract (??) by one more year.
If so, even that is great news ..........

The nameof the linked page is - ollie-lawrence-signs-two-year-contract-extension.

Might be a clue.
Think you might be referencing the link for Ted Hill's contract extension Poynton.

I'm talking about Ollie Lawrence, not Ted.
To quote Ollie - “I’m happy to have extended my stay at the club and I’m looking forward to the next couple of seasons"
Was already on a one year contract covering next season, so the quote attributed to Ollie leads me to suspect its a one year extension.

Also from the BBC Sport page "The length of Lawrence's new deal has not been disclosed"

I did look for clues before I posted

Fact check.....

1)The header of the linked piece is “Ollie Lawrence signs contract extension”

2) In the piece he is directly quoted as saying “ “I’m happy to have extended my stay at the club and I’m looking forward to the next couple of seasons.”

Now play nicely boys.

My prediction is that it will be Schonert and Owen next.
I'd be more than happy with those two.

The Header is “Ollie Lawrence signs contract extension” that is true, but what I said was that the title of the page (Click the link and check the address bar) is "ollie-lawrence-signs-two-year-contract-extension/"

It definitely says Ollie Lawrence, not Ted Hill, and definitely says two year extension.

You’re quite correct of course, PS.

Perhaps I was being a tiny bit sneaky when I said “fact check”....because of course I presented facts.....but clearly not all of them!

And we always play nicely here...........

And so do Ted and Ollie. Wonder what today brings?

It will be a nice surprise for me later, I’m off now to a very unofficial meeting of Canal & Rivers Trust volunteer lock keepers.....who aren’t currently allowed to keep locks since Boris says we’re too old, and have to look after ourselves. I did think of writing to him and pointing out that a narrow lock is conveniently just over 2 metres wide, and most of us had enough remaining brain cells functioning to stay on opposite sides, but decided on balance to not bother.

You are indeed correct Poynton, the address bar of the web page does indeed indicate 2 additional years for Ollie.
Apologies for doubting you powers of observation :)
However, I suspect that it is a bit of sloppy 'cut and pasting' from the web site editor.
The article itself nor its headline mentions any contract extension length.
Suppose only time will tell .............

Beck Cutting steps up to the first team. We've got decent stocks at hooker now and I'm excited to see Cutting kick on a bit.

My cup runneth over. I remember his first Cavaliers game, when he was perhaps a bit nervous, but after that he looked completely at home whichever side he was in.

Wouldn't you love to be JT and Sherratt coming in just as the latest academy bunch are all stepping up, with Lawrence and Hill signed on for the foreseeable future? They'll be so motivated to get to the same level.

In turn, the older guys will have someone new snapping at their heels. Great stuff.

Presumably we have plenty of new recruits in the Academy, or coming in to replenish those spots left by the new First Team recruits.

Bit busier with the Valkyries squad though- 23 new recruits so far and still counting :yikes: Yes i know they finished bottom or near to it in Tyrells Prem last season and had to get voted back in, but even so, that's a mighty 'churn rate'.

Is it all churn? Or is there significant expansion?

I’ve no idea, but if 23 have left it would be a massive churn, but if some/most/all of the 23 are additional then it’s a different story.

I have no idea, can you expand?

A quote from the article on BBC Sport (about the Tigers woes).

"Only 75% of wages from deals signed before 18 June will count towards the salary cap from the start of the 2021-22 season".

I guess this is why we have been seeing a raft of contract extensions
Definately not complaining, not bothered about why the guys have re-signed, just really pleased that they have !!

Yes, the signings are all good news. All we need now is the plan for us to get back into our seats and see the new signings perform.
Not complaining, just anticipating!!

Seriously, this "great bloke and good team member" mantra makes sense, though it's not without risk. Every club talks about "the family"; Saracens, Wasps and Leicester are among those who have prided themselves on this way of life in the past. Of those three, Tigers probably came nearest to it in truth, but it's looking pretty silly now. Solly is trying to make it into a reality despite the commercialism of premiership rugby, and he might succeed if he can get through the first complete season with this philosophy. Perhaps he does know something about ringfencing, or perhaps he's just hoping for the best, but I'm happy to throw my weight behind his judgement. Top 6 won't be next season, but we could be there in three years - yes, I know we've heard it all before, but we seem to bein the best position for some time regarding financial stability, coaching stability and medium to long term player stability.

Of course I would say that, wouldn't I - I'm a great bloke and a good team player.

The Times take on the problems at Leicester is that players such as Tuilagi, Ford and Genge, who it names, are not likely to be afforded by other Premiership clubs within their budgets/cap and that therefore their alternative to accepting what their club is offering is to go abroad - losing their ability to play for England.

A combination of Covid and the overall financial position of the Premiership is bringing changes.

Yes, this is a watershed moment for the game. Big name clubs and big name players will be struggling with their over inflated sense of self-worth in some instances, and that’s no bad thing.

Solly’s “great blokes and good team players” is a pretty decent basis as a philosophy, and having met the bloke several times for some pretty frank discussions I’m sure he is sincere when he says it.

It does seem likely that there will be some grief around contracts and salaries before it all settles, although Mr Genge appears to have gone quiet on the subject for a couple of weeks. Looking at our own situation regarding those areas my guess is that we’re more settled than most. The promotion signings from the academy are excellent news, and the re-signings by senior players as listed over the last couple of weeks speak of an increasingly happy ship.

Feeling very optimistic right now, and yes, we’ve heard it all before, but I feel with Solly backed by Colin & Jason and the new coaching setup we look more likely to make steady progress than at any time over the previous decade.

Very good post TT and to put it into perspective, I have renewed my ST (albeit on a half ST basis) this morning. I wasn't going to renew based on not knowing what was going to happen etc. , but the contract extensions and the mess at other clubs, face me the feeling that it was the right thing to do. back into dreamland for next season then

Thank you.

I am guilty of impeccably bad timing by referring to young Mr Genge, who has just been mentioned on national radio as being much involved with a salary dispute with his unfortunate (soon to be ex) employers as today is apparently’crunch day” on contractual issues.

Go and look at the Tigers forum on the old site for the fans view. Most of them are not happy as you would expect with the club first and foremost and then the players. Hard to see a good result out o this - all the player sign up and then then those who signed in the first place think what a bunch of prima donnas or they don't sign and they lose the core of their team
