Wow !! Barnes is a self opinionated tw*t isn't he ?, purely in my own view of course !A38 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 9:03 amI usually find things to disagree with Stuart Barnes about but this extract, from the Sunday Times, stings this up to now loyal supporter:-
Harlequins are back in a play-off position after this utterly predictable win against Worcester. Utterly predictable because the Warriors haven’t won a Premiership fixture since an 11-10 victory over then newly promoted London Irish in the opening weekend of the 2020-21 campaign.
This was their 13th defeat in 14 games. Fortunately for Worcester there is to be no relegation this year. Who knows when such a radical idea as performance on the pitch playing a part in sport will be reintroduced to the English professional game?
PRL has used the pandemic to protect its business partners. An admittedly extraordinary crisis is the justification for taking a major step towards a monopolistic league where a theoretical club with the ambition to be the next Exeter rather than Worcester are deprived of opportunity. Worcester have no right NOT to be relegated, or face a legitimate play-off to stay part of the Premiership.
BT will televise Worcester in the early days of the season. The apposite broadcast phrase is ”get them out the way.” Despite some pretty patterns at the Stoop, the Warriors have never made an impression on the Premiership, never qualified for the European Cup, never looked like a club comfortable in the elite. But in the interests of business, they are allowed to tread water.
