Newport Salop 40 Stoke On Trent 33 was helpful for us as we get to the last fixtures of the season
Sad week at Kendal Flumpty

Somewhat off thread but......

Tuned in to watch Highlanders v Hurricanes (Super Rugby Rn5 to find it was actually The Hulk v Captain America. Round 5 has been designated "Super Kids" Round so NZ teams wear special shirts. Highlanders/Hulk, Hurricanes/Capt America. Tomorrow Crusaders/Ironman play errmmm Western Force.

Blues 19 Crusaders 42: Vern Cotter's Blues can't seem to retain the ball long enough to finish off attacks and are now 1 from 5 and 9th of 11 in Super Rugby. Crusader's defence made the difference.
Another shout out for "Sale's James O'Connor" for his sublime laser accurate cross field kick pass to put Macca Springer away in the corner. Sublime stuff.

Western Force 52 v Fijian Drua 15

On a hot 32° Sunday arvo with not a hint of a breeze the Force started like a bullet train and had the try bonus point wrapped up inside 28 minutes. A game of 11 tries, including 3 for Sale Old Boy Nic Dolly. But the try of the match (season?) came from Potter. Mac Grealy took a quick throw to Harry Potter who, using all his wizardry, from
5 meters inside his own half beat 7 Fijians in a mazy run to get the bonus point try.

Crusaders 29 Moana 45: Bottom club Moana took second place 'Saders apart with ruthless line speed and devastating handling. Far more one sided than the score suggests. Stunning performance from Moana coached by All Black Tana Umaga and Wales' Stephen Jones.

Aldwinians 2nd XV 5 Kendal Vikings 12

2 evenly matched teams, that defended well and handled badly.
Aldwinians didn't help themselves, when down to 12 players through yellow cards.
Kendal didn't help themselves, when they didn't take advantage, whilst out numbering the opposition !

Drua 14 Crusaders 31

'Saders rested some key players with an eye on next week's match up against the 'Canes but still led comfortably until the last 10 minutes. Drua snatched 2 good tries as the 'Saders went to sleep. That won't be good enough next weekend if they want to stay second in SRP.

Aspull 40 Heaton Moor 27. 5 tries each but they had a kicker, we didn't. That's us down to level 8 next season despite 13 4 try bonuses.

Heaton Moor U17 64 Bolton U17 14. Through to final of Junior Colts Bowl

Lymm conceded against the U18s

A VERY physical game against the Hurricanes in Wellington saw 'Saders win 24-31, playing the last 10 minutes with 13 men. Leading 10-31 with barely 15 minutes left on the clock the 'Saders had to defend like scrap yard dogs to hold out for the win. Bruising stuff.

Crusaders go top as Chiefs were beaten away at the Waratahs

Penrith 32 Kendal 31
Great comeback - but late twist.
https://www.kendalrugby.co.uk/news/thro ... 55929.html

Penrith get the Cumbrian bragging rights, by finishing 7th and Kendal end the season in 9th.
A very creditable ending position for a very young Kendal squad. If my working out is correct, 7 (maybe 8) of Kendals starting team are aged 21 or under. All good experiences that will hold them in good stead for 2025/2026 when they'll all be a year older (& wiser !!)

Next week sees the Cumbria Cup final between Penrith & Kendal at the neutral venue of Wigton. It would be good to finish the season on a high.

Another physical slugfest, this time in driving wind and rain, for 1st placed 'Saders. The dreadful conditions neutralised any slick attacks but not the excitement. At 66 minutes it was all square at 22/22 then up steps "Sale's James O'Connor" :joy: to nail the final penalty as the clock ran out.
'Saders slip to 2nd place as Chiefs wallop the Highlanders with a try bonus and 46-10 win.

Cumbria Cup Final

Penrith 36 Kendal 31
Pipped again
https://www.kendalrugby.co.uk/news/penr ... 55929.html

Penrith snatched it at the death, with a try in the final minute. This was a full on local derby game for Cumbrian bragging rights
IMO, the subs made the difference. Penrith got stronger when their subs came on, whilst Kendal get weaker.
Across 3 games this season, there has only been 6 points between - they really are very closely matched. It'll be interesting how things go next season. Kendals squad is very young and getting better with experience. Penriths squad is more more experienced and established, with quite a few of their players closer to the end of their playing career, rather than the start !!

Coming off a buy week, Force were dealt a blow in warm up as Brandon Paenga-Amosa tweaked his Achilles and a hasty re-shuffle ensued. An highly fought and entertaining game ended all square after what was the first ever Super Point at HBF Park.
Donaldson fired a penalty just wide and then had a drop goal attempt blocked after a tired Force waited too long with him in the pocket.
With the siren after extra time sounded, Love hit the upright with his drop attempt.

Referee Damon Murphy needs to re-visit the classroom and refresh the law of Off-Side. But he was consistent and not penalising either side haha

There's "high drama" and then there's the way the Force/'Canes game ended. :yikes:
Those two final kicks were agonising. Could that be the first time a "golden point" hasn't decided a match ? Hats off to both Force and Hurricanes ?

Highlanders 10 Crusaders 43: A massive defensive shift by the 'Saders against a spirited 'Landers who had more possession and territory. Then again there's always Will Jordan. The 'Saders counterpunched repeatedly and kept scoring but remain second on points difference behind the Chiefs.
