Women’s’ Intermediate Cup: Sunday, 27th October 2019.

Sale 1861 33 - 5 Sefton Ladies.

An interesting game as it would seem that the Referee forgot to put his watch back last night and decided to make a partial adjustment during the second half - which lasted one hour and five minutes!

In a rugby match, the sole arbiter of timing is the referee. In fact, he was correct and the rest of you had watches that were all running to quickly (obviously as a ref, I've never stopped the watch when a player was injured and forgotten to start it again. Or been saved by the big clock next to the pitch where Kendal used to play. No, not me. It never happened. Nothing to see here folks. Please move along. Please move along  )

I was working elsewhere for the afternoon and evening and thus have to rely entirely on the reports of those in attendance. Obviously, being at a distance from all the excitement, I am unable to verify the degree of sobriety present in said correspondents, especially after an extended period of time before No Side when there is a warm, friendly, inviting and easily accessible bar but a few steps away.

I now understand that a broken ankle may have Played its part for some of the stoppage. In my day, of course, we’d have called for crutches and a Zimmer frame and played on regardless.

"In my day, of course, we’d have called for crutches and a Zimmer frame and played on regardless.."

Surely that was how we got on the pitch in the first place - at least it was in the 5th team I played for.

National 1: Saturday, 9th November 2019.

Sale FC 18 - 8 Darlington Mowden Park

11th of 16.

The first half was probably the most boring rugby I've seen since the 1997 Pilkington Final at Twickenham where Leicester beat us 9 - 3 in a game where even professional insomniacs were snoring loudly. It perked up a bit in the second half, but even then won't go down in the records as a great and interesting game.

My Club did something different today and are rightly very pleased with themself.
For the first time ever, every pitch at Kendal was used for girls rugby as we hosted a 10 Club/4 County/2 Country Festival.
Over 200 girls playing rugby with like minded players in a friendly and welcoming enviroment that was played under the RFU's Half Game rules, which meant that EVERY player got lots of game time.
It was something that was a pleasure to be involved in.

I can tell you, from bitter experience, about Caldy!

When we played them in the Play-offs in our failed attempt to reach National 1 a couple of seasons since, they had a crack team of invisible painters who very quickly added an extra layer of paint to the posts so that our potentially match-winning kick bounced off!

They were so clever that they removed all evidence of wet paint from the ball before we had chance to inspect it.

Don’t trust them an inch!

In a sea of negativity and online bickering in the world of rugby, this is an amazing piece of work! Well done to Kendal and well done to everyone involved. Superb news on every level. Numbers of girls/women, half game rules working well, welcoming environment etc. Shout this from the rooftops. Well done from all at Sale FC Rugby :-)

Not the finest of weeks for Kendals Senior Teams
Bradford & Bingley 17 Kendal 12 (supposedly Kendals "Derby" game this season
The 2nds lost to Wirral
The Wasps went down 39-0 to Bishop Auckland Ladies

The shining light are the U13 girls who came from the latest Cumbria Girls Festival with 3 wins and no defeats. Regardless of the result, they gave 3 excellent performances, with the Kirkby Lonsdale U13 girls to make a combined Kendal Lonsdale squad.
This was the 4th Cumbrian Girls Festival this season and girls rugby continues to go from strength to strength with increased participation - are other Counties/areas doing anything similar ?

Kendal Senior Colts have won their penultimate League game, with I think a BP.

Makos 17 Kendal Senior Colts 26

This puts them 2nd, with the chance of competing for the top spot on the final day of the season.

I slight disappointment in their Division this week, was that out of the 3 fixtures that were due to be played, their's was the only one that was completed, the other 2 were deemed to be Home Walk Over.
